SAR 6M from alinma to Support Genome Research

Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman Center for Disability Research, alinma Bank, through its sustainability and social responsibility program "AMAD," signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the King Salman Center for Disability Research to support the pioneering "Baby Genome" project. This initiative is the first of its kind in the Kingdom and the region, aiming to conduct comprehensive genome sequencing for newborns and advance scientific research in the field of genetic disorders.

On this occasion, Dr. Abdulmalik Abdullah Al-Hogail, Chairman of alinma Bank, emphasized the significance of this partnership in reaffirming the Bank’s commitment to supporting scientific research and enhancing quality of life. He stated: “We are proud of this collaboration and honored by the Bank’s recognition as a founding member of the Center—an acknowledgment of alinma’s contributions to serving humanity and society by supporting sustainable scientific solutions.”

The “Baby Genome” project aims to conduct full genome sequencing for 1,000 newborns across all 13 regions of the Kingdom using Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) technology. The goal is early detection of genetic anomalies and timely intervention to reduce disease prevalence and mortality rates. The project will also establish a national genetic database to track regional variations and improve understanding of hereditary patterns within the Saudi population.
