Alinma Bank lifted the Saudi Banks League football championship trophy on June 9, 2012 at the Gulf Green stadium in Riyadh after besting the Saudi Hollandi Bank team in a thrilling extra time win.
Both teams entered the final having already dispensed with competition from the other four banks participating in the tournament, namely, Bank Al-Jazira, Arab National Bank, SABB and Emirates NBD. When the whistle blew at the end of regulation time, Alinma and Saudi Hollandi were even at one goal each. The match remaining tied through extra time, sending the teams to a penalty shoot-out, which Alinma won three goals to two.
Following the win, the Alinma team was congratulated by Alinma Bank CEO, Mr. Abdulmohsen Al-Fares, at a special gathering at the bank’s head office in Riyadh. Speaking about the team’s performance, Al-Fares praised all participants and emphasized the importance of sports and other social activities as team-building initiatives for employees.
The win was especially sweet for Alinma, as it was the bank’s first year participating in the event. The championship match itself saw strong attendance and enthusiasm from fans and employees from the participating banks.
