Alinma Bank is pleased to announce the launch of its Alinma UnionPay Credit Card, the first card in Saudi Arabia that is fully compatible with China’s UnionPay International (UPI) network. The move comes as a continuation of the bank’s efforts to provide partners (customers) with the broadest, most comprehensive payment options available. Toward this end, Alinma has continually sought to establish payment partnerships internationally that benefit bank partners. And now, with its partnership with China’s UPI, which manages the largest payment network worldwide, Alinma further extends payment capabilities on behalf of its partners with the introduction of the Alinma UnionPay Credit Card. The new card is accepted at merchants and at ATMs across the kingdom wherever the UnionPay logo is displayed.
Speaking about the launch, Alinma Bank CEO, His Excellency Mr. Abdulmohsen Al-Fares, said that he was pleased to establish such a beneficial partnership with UnionPay International, one that would bring further payment convenience and variety to Alinma’s partners. He further noted that in addition to the functionality for bank partners domestically, the Alinma UnionPay Credit Card would assist partners when traveling internationally, especially to East Asia, where the card can be used for both payments and ATM withdrawals. Al-Fares also pointed out that, thanks to the UPI partnership, visitors to the kingdom who use UnionPay enabled cards would be able to use those cards in Saudi Arabia at Alinma ATMs and merchants who use Alinma POS payment terminals. He noted that this would be especially useful for pilgrims visiting the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.
